The Hollywood Renaissance Hotel
1755 North Highland Avenue
Hollywood, CA 90028
Our beautiful conference hotel is located in the heart of historic Hollywood, surrounded by sites made famous by the movie and television industry, and immediately adjacent to the Hollywood-Highland retail and entertainment districts. Conference-goers are strongly encouraged to make hotel reservations early to ensure room availability, since the conference rate cannot be guaranteed if our contracted room block is surpassed.
The AAM 2009 conference committee has negotiated these
deeply discounted hotel rates for conference goers:
$189 per night (single or double occupancy)
$209 per night (triple or quadruple occupancy)
Prices do not include a 14 percent hotel tax, a 20 cent per day
California tourism fee, parking, or gratuities for the hotel staff.
Due to the unpredictable and nearly constant congestion of Los Angeles area traffic, and the difficulty and expense of parking, conference goers are encouraged not to drive themselves, and to make use of the transportation arrangements made by the conference committee throughout the week. If you need to park a car, however, parking rates (as of 9/15/08, subject to change) are as follows:
$29 per day: valet parking by hotel staff,
with in & out privileges (does not include gratuities for the valets themselves)
$10 per day: daily maximum for self parking in the Los Angeles City
Parking Structure next to the hotel, does not include in & out privileges
Hotel reservations must be made by Friday, June 5, 2009 to receive the conference rate, but as stated previously, the conference rate is subject to availability, so do not leave this to the last minute! The conference rates may also be available three days before or three days after official program dates, based on availability.
We suggest considering both the Burbank Airport (BUR) and the Los Angeles Airport (LAX).
See the Transportation page for more information.
Why should I stay in the conference hotel?
Apart from the conviviality you will enjoy interacting with other AAM members throughout the day, quick access to your room makes it easy to browse the exhibits at your leisure, throw on a sweater for the cooler evening hours, and enjoy the historic environs of the hotel.
In addition, you will waste less of your day battling Los Angeles traffic!
In order to secure such an advantageous group rate and to reserve a block of rooms sufficient to accommodate our conference, your conference committee must sign a contract with a hotel, guaranteeing that we will sell at least 90 percent of the hotel rooms we have reserved. If the conference falls short of 90 percent, the unused rooms must be paid for by AAM anyway. Please do not make your hotel reservation through a discount web site, since the AAM conference does not get credit for selling these rooms, and the financial implications of a large hotel room shortfall could be dire.
All transportation arrangements for the conference will originate and terminate at the Hollywood Renaissance Hotel. The conference committee can offer no assistance with additional transportation arrangements should you decide to stay elsewhere.
You may find cheaper hotels, but “cheap” in Los Angeles may also mean “not very nice” and/or “not in a great neighborhood,” and staying elsewhere will undoubtedly increase your transportation challenges and expenses.
Why did you choose such a nice hotel?
We want you to be in a location where it is practical for you to experience and enjoy our beautiful city, and we needed a hotel that could meet all of the various requirements of hosting a conference as large as ours.
Your conference committee investigated a dozen hotels in various locations around Los Angeles, and the Hollywood Renaissance Hotel’s accommodations and offer to us were, at once, the best and the least expensive. Since we must choose a hotel that has meeting space capable of accommodating 200-250 people, many of the hotels we looked at were not even a viable option. The Hollywood Renaissance offered us meeting rooms and waived the additional room rental charges, which will allow us to keep your registration fee for the week much lower than it otherwise would have been.
Transportation is normally the second largest expense in sponsoring an AAM conference, and Los Angeles traffic being what it is, it will be extremely advantageous to be in this location, where we can take advantage of the Los Angeles metro system. Access to the metro will allow us to keep the registration fee for the week much lower than it otherwise would have been.
As of September 2008, the rack rate for standard hotel rooms at the Hollywood Renaissance Hotel was $299 per night, so you are getting a great deal here! The other large hotels in viable locations that we checked out were considerably more expensive than this. Be sure to reserve your room early to ensure the availability of the conference rate!
